I always wanted to own a cabin somewhere in the wild, surrounded by lush green forest. When the opportunity to own one arrived four years ago, I jumped on it immediately. The location was great and the cabin was like I’ve always wanted. The only problem was that cell phone coverage was virtually non-existent. A CB radio was the most practical choice if I was to keep in touch with the outside world. A friend recommended I buy the Cobra 29 ltd CB radio.
After doing some research, I decided to buy one since it was inexpensive and had many useful features. Additionally, I had to invest in a 12V power source, antenna, cable, and other mounting accessories. It still works after 4 years and this Cobra 29 ltd CB radio review details what I’ve learned from using it.
Instant access to 40 different channels
This is a basic requirement for any CB radio worth investing in today. The Cobra 29 ltd classic gives you access to 40 channels including NOAA, channel 9 for emergencies and channel 19 for general information. The NOAA channels are pretty important for me to keep track of the weather which can suddenly change out in the wild.

Controls, connectors, and displays on the front panel
Although I use this Cobra CB in my cabin, I bet it can be a good option for vehicles. All the important controls, connectors and displays are on the front panel. This makes it easier to work with the unit once it’s properly mounted.
Two colored and well-lit displays
Despite having a design reminiscent of earlier CB radio models, the 29 ltd classic from Cobra includes unique additions that give it a modern feel. One of these is the well-lit LCD displays placed on the upper right and left side of the front panel. These displays provide readings of the current channel and a meter reading of RF and SWR. The displays come with a dimming feature which comes in handy when using the unit at night.
Clear and loud voice output
I’ve never had to replace the factory mic that came with my CB radio. It still provides clear and loud voice output like it’s brand new. The sound quality can also be fine-tuned via the noise blanker, adjustable Dynamike boost, delta tune and talk back controls. You should, however, note that the length and mounting of your antenna will also play a huge part in signal quality.

Bonus features
The Cobra 29 ltd 40 channel CB radio also includes three features that aren’t commonly found in every CB radio on the market. The mic features a 9-foot cord which makes it easy to use the CB even while standing at a distance. Another feature that stands out is the PA capability. Simply connect and external speaker and use this CB radio as a public address system.
Cobra classic 29 ltd shortcomings
Overall, this is a quality CB radio. However, I did find the display light too bright initially even when dimmed at night. However, I got used to it eventually given that I also own other electronics and appliances with even brighter lights.
Final Verdict
The Cobra 29 ltd comes in a rugged classic design reminiscent of the early CB models. It offers several common features you’ll find in modern CB models. It also offers unique features like PA capability which make it a good option for vehicles, control room or even home use.
If you were considering investing in this CB radio, you probably should as it offers good value for your investment.
